Revamped Morrisons supermarket opens ‘amazing’ new milkshake and waffle house
A milkshake and waffle bar house has opened in the revamped Morrisons in Cheltenham. And many youngsters on their Easter holidays are loving the fact that it has arrived in the supermarket.
The retail giant has changed a lot of things at the site in Caernarvon Road, Up Hatherley, after Aldi opened a brand new store just down the road. The revamp was finished last week and children wasted no time checking out one of the new offerings.
They were heard to describe the milkshake and waffle house, which is just inside the main entrance and next to a new coffee bar called Brew, as “amazing”. Queues formed as the youngsters were keen to get their sugary fix.
The new area offers milkshakes made with milk, ice cream and a choice of confectionery as well as waffle pops and hot waffle dips – milk chocolate, white chocolate or strawberry and marshmallow. It forms part of what Morrisons calls its Market Kitchen, where meals are freshly made by a team of chefs – meaning that customers can have their breakfast, lunch or evening meal freshly made-to-order, at the same time as popping in for their groceries.
The new area also includes Bird and Baste, where freshly basted roasted chicken is served with a choice of hot and cold sides including seasoned fries, spicy rice or corn on the cob. Shoppers will notice a number of other changes inside and outside the extended supermarket.
The cafe has been renovated and a new customer toilet area added close to it. The pharmacy has been moved to a different area, close to where the newspapers are now sold.
A new ‘Hello Cheltenham Up Hatherley, welcome to Morrisons’ sign greets shoppers as they make their way in and another says ‘Lovely to see you, bye for now’ as they leave. In the car park, a covered walkway has been demolished and replaced with a simple wider pedestrian area. There are also new trolley areas.
It is not clear whether the recycling area will have banks for people to use again, as was the case before the revamp work began. Morrisons has been approached for further information.
